“I plan on selling my expensive tape back up and
software on eBay.”
— Linda Slater-Dowling ASAP Promotions
“Our experience with Remote Data Backups has been
outstanding. Previously we endured the hassle of backing up our large files
onto tape...and many times we would not remember to perform the backup...or we
would elect to "forget" to do the backup. It would take 15-25 minutes of time
...so it was more than inconvenience to back up files...It also was costly to
take the time as that time could have been devoted to customers and more
business.”

Disadvantages of Backup using FTP
- You need to obtain and pay for disk space on an FTP server. This storage
space is typically very limited or much more expensive per MB than our
service.
- No automatic backup: You need to
remember to back up every day.
- FTP connections are unreliable and often times out, so you need to resume
the connection and figure out which files were not backed up.
- Files can be corrupted during FTP transfers without your knowledge.
- You need to manage multiple file
versions yourself.
- Most FTP software is not encrypted
and therefore not secure.
- FTP servers do not normally use data
mirroring.
- Many FTP server data centers have only minimal
data security features.
- No free 24/7 technical support.
- The time, technical expertise and cost of managing your own FTP server and
keeping it secure would far exceed the low
cost of our offsite backup service.
FTP Backup Overview Software costs up to
$100; backup time and technical support costs $$
- How often do you actually use it?
- How much time do you spend every time you back up your data?
- Are you using secure FTP file transfer? How secure is the server
itself?
- Do you back up and manage multiple file
versions?
You might be able to back up your information using File Transfer Protocol
software, but you would have to work very hard to duplicate all the convenience
and file security of Remote Data Backups. |
