“Security of your data is important. RDB encrypts your data and no one, including employees at the data centers, can decrypt your data. Only you have the key, therefore your sensitive corporate data will not be compromised.”

Private Encryption Key

When you set up a Remote Data Backups account, you choose your own Private Encryption Key.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to print out multiple copies of your account number and encryption phrase and store them in two secure locations, both locally and offsite.

That way you have it in case you ever need to reinstall your backup account (hard drive crash, fire, theft, etc.).

To print your account number and encryption phrase (v7x):

  • Open your Remote Data Backups program.
  • Under the Options menu, click Security.
  • Click the View Encryption Key button, then Print.

Your encryption key is a least 8 characters and case sensitive.

Dynamic Account Password

While not required, you can add or change your account password at any time. This creates an additional layer of security in case you feel your original encryption key may have been compromised (employee leaves, etc.). In the software under the Options menu, go to Security, then Change Account Password.
